What to Expect on Your First Visit

Your first visit will include a very complete dental examination.  In this way we are able to diagnose your unique dental needs, discover your wants, and talk with you about how we might fulfill them.  The doctor will examine your mouth for signs of oral cancer and dental abnormalities (such as decay, missing teeth, jaw dysfunction, and any defective fillings).  In addition, the hygienist and doctor will be doing a full periodontal (gum) screening to determine if any disease is present.  In order to be as thorough as possible, radiographs (x-rays) will be taken.  A full series (18 x-rays) is recommended by the American Dental Association every three years.  If you have had x-rays taken recently, please bring them with you.

For those patients who have had regular dental care, a routine cleaning will likely be performed at this visit.  This appointment will take roughly 90 minutes for adults and 45 minutes for children. If any signs of periodontal disease are present, more comprehensive treatment may be needed.  The details of this periodontal program will be discussed before initiation.

The fee for the initial adult visit includes the complete exam, full series of intra-oral x-rays, routine cleaning and polishing, oral hygiene instructions, oral cancer screening, periodontal diagnosis and treatment plan.  Children receive an examination of their teeth and gums, two or four cavity-detecting x-rays and a dental development x-ray, cleaning and fluoride, as well as brushing instructions.  The doctor will also evaluate the dental arch to see if there may be a need for orthodontics (braces) in the future.

If you are being seen for a dental problem (rather than the initial adult visit for exam, cleaning, and x-rays) the dentist will examine the area and probably take two x-rays. They will then be able to tell you what needs to be done and an estimate of fees.

We accept cash, personal checks, Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express, and Care Credit.  We will file your insurance for you (although you will be responsible for any fees that insurance will not pay) and we also offer 12 month NO INTERESTfinancing for qualifying treatment plans.

We will try to make your dental appointment as pleasurable an experience as possible.
